  • Pregnancy (or gestation) is calculated as 40 weeks and starts from the first day of your last menstrual period. Pregnancy is classified into 3 stages known as trimesters.
  • The gender and inherited characteristics of the baby are decided at the moment of conception.
  • Calculating your due date to birth is a guide - babies usually come when they are ready.
  • Pregnancy duration can vary among women. 'Full term' babies can arrive anytime between 37 and 42 weeks. Some babies will be born earlier (prematurely).
