Victorian State Nutritionist, Veronica Graham talks about the benefits of shopping at fresh produce markets. Find out how to select fruit and vegetables to keep healthy - eat a rainbow every day!
Victoria is home to lots of great markets – both in rural and regional Victoria. There are farmers markets, fruit and veg markets, fresh produce markets just like this one. I'm at the Vic Market today and I'm ready to go shopping. I've got my list and my aim is to get as many fruit and vegetables to stock up on for this week and this winter.

The first thing to know about vegetables – they are packed with vitamins, minerals and fibre. The different coloured vegetables give you different nutrients and antioxidants and they are fabulous for your health.

When we say eat lots of vegetables and fruits - a really good tip is 'Eat a rainbow every day' - so don’t just think about greens which are fabulous. Think about your orange ones, carrot and pumpkin. Blues and purples like eggplants and blueberries. Whites such as cauliflower and potato. When you eat a rainbow, you increase the nutrients you’re getting and it’s much better for health.
