The Dementia Behaviour Management Advisory Service (DBMAS) works to improve the lives of people with dementia whose behaviour is affecting their care. It does this by assisting care workers, family carers and service providers to better meet the person’s specific needs.
DBMAS provides services to care workers, aged care service providers, hospital staff and carers of people with dementia who receive support through Australian government-funded aged care services.
- Assessment – both of the person with dementia and the person/people providing their care
- Clinical support, information and advice (provided in person, over the phone or via email)
- Care planning
- Short-term case management
- Mentoring for carers
- Clinical supervision for carers
- Education and training on the behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) for carers
- Help to link to current research, literature and evidence-based practice guidelines relevant to dementia and BPSD
Available to care workers, including family carers, and staff and volunteers of aged care services providing care to people with BPSD whose care is being impacted by their behaviour, and who are receiving care through aged care services.
