Description

The Sexual Assault Crisis Line Victoria (SACL) is a statewide, after-hours, confidential telephone crisiscounselling service for people who have experienced sexual assault (both recently and in the past).

Services provided

  • After-hours telephone crisis counselling support and information
  • Advocacy
  • Referral
  • Coordination of a crisis care response for Victorians who have experienced sexual assault within the last two weeks
  • Support and information for non-offending family and friends
  • Information on legal and medical rights and options

Eligibility

Available to anyone in Victoria.

How to access

Call 1800 806 292 (24 hours a day, 7 days a week).

Emergency line, call (03) 8345 3494 (5.00 pm to 9.00 am, 7 days a week).

The National Relay Service (NRS)External Link is available to help callers who are d/Deaf, or find it hard to hear or speak to hearing people on the phone.

The Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS National)External Link is available (24 hours, 7 days) for callers who speak other languages. Call 131 450.

Costs

The Sexual Assault Crisis Line provides a free service.

Calls to the 1800 number are free for Victorians.

Calls from mobile phones may be charged at a higher rate.

Tip

SACL provides crisis counselling support and information that may help you make decisions about your medical and legal rights – for example. your right to report to the police, and access to medical care or a forensic examination.

In an emergency, call triple zero (000).

If you have been recently sexually assaulted in Victoria:

  • Get to a safe place.
  • Contact someone who you trust and who can help you, such as a friend or family member.
  • If you are injured or unsafe call an ambulance or the police on triple zero (000).
