Overview

Don’t risk what matters

In partnership with Good Shepherd Microfinance, The Department of Health and Human Services has developed the ‘Insure it. It’s worth it’ Toolkit to help financially prepare you and your family if things go wrong.

In southeast Australia in recent decades, bushfire has been the second biggest cause of insured property loss from natural hazards after severe thunderstorms. Victoria is the most exposed state.*

This toolkit has been designed to provide practical information and advice about the importance of home and contents insurance to reduce emergency-related financial risk and promote effective recovery.

The toolkit is a simple approach to encourage people to check their financial readiness, understand the financial effects of a disaster and to start a conversation about financial wellbeing.

The toolkit provides four easy steps to understand what level of insurance you need so you can bounce back after an emergency:

  1. Know your risk
  2. Calculate the value of your belongings
  3. Insure what matters to you
  4. Protect your important documents
