What’s your favourite Victorian children’s book?
Nominate your favourite picture book for the next round of baby bundles and it could be read by thousands of Victoria’s newest families each year.
About 35,000 new parents each year, at all Victorian birthing hospitals receive free baby bundles with newborn essentials to help guide them through their first few months and years of their child’s life.
The baby bundle contains four picture books by Victorian authors suitable for kids aged 0-2.
Research shows that children who are regularly read to and who have lots of books in their homes do better in their first years of school. Reading, storytelling, talking and singing with your baby helps them learn about sounds, words and language.
In 2019, the Victorian public nominated four books written by Victorian authors to be included in the baby bundle. There were almost 1,200 submissions and more than 300 different books nominated.
Nominations are now open for new books to be included in the next round of Victoria’s baby bundle.
The public can go to the Baby bundle book nominations page on engage.vic site to nominate their favourite Victorian children’s book to be included in the bundle.
The publicly nominated books will be reviewed by an expert literacy panel, who will then select the final books for the bundle.
Nominations close on 21 February 2021.
The baby bundle is part of the Victorian Government's $213.7 million over four years to fund a comprehensive package of supports for parents, including first-time parents, during the transition to parenthood and the first years of their child’s life.
