In December, men are encouraged to grow a beard to raise awareness of bowel cancer. Bowel cancer is Australia’s second deadliest cancer and third biggest cancer killer in men, but if detected early more than 90 % of bowel cancers can be successfully treated.
Flaunt your fluff and while doing so take the opportunity to encourage male friends and family members to have regular medical check-ups. It could save their lives.
Remember these 3 reasons why you should see the year out by growing a beard:
- Salt and pepper beards are distinguished
Bowel cancer affects men of all ages and the risk increases every year from age 50
- But beards of all colours are great
Bowel cancer kills more than 2,900 men each year, 279 (10%) are under age 55
- You’ll be helping a lot of your mates
More than 8,500 Australian men are diagnosed with the disease each year
It doesn’t matter if you already have a fabulous face of fur, you can still be part of Decembeard, spreading the word to help beat bowel cancer.
