PrivateHealth.gov.au is an Australian Government website that explains how privatehealth insurance works, and who and what is covered. It also provides the StandardInformation Statements (SIS) from every registered health fund, which allows you tocompare health insurance policies.

How to access
Call 1300 737 299 (Private Health Insurance Ombudsman).
The National Relay Service is available to help callers who are d/Deaf, or find it hard to hear or speak to hearing people on the phone.
The Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS is available (24 hours, 7 days) for callers who speak other languages. Call 131 450.

Costs
PrivateHealth.gov.au is a free service.
Calls to the Private Health Insurance Ombudsman are charged at the cost of a local call.
Calls from mobile phones may be charged at a higher rate.
Tip
- If you are single, you may only need health insurance for yourself.
- If you have family living with you, including children, you may be able topurchase cover that provides for everyone in your household.
- The Commonwealth Government subsidises the cost of health insurancethrough the Private Health Insurance .
