What is a BHC content partner?
A Better Health Channel content partner is a reputable health organisation that has agreed to help us produce reliable consumer health information. Content partners check the fact sheets relevant to their area of expertise to ensure they are accurate and reflect latest research findings and recommendations.
What sort of organisations become BHC content partners?
Better Health Channel content partners are reputable health organisations with specialised knowledge. They are often peak bodies representing a particular area of health-related expertise.

Can commercial organisations become content partners?
We generally only work with government, educational and other not-for-profit health and health-related organisations.

How many content partners does BHC have?
We have about 250 content partners and new organisations are signing up every week. Have a look at our latest list of content partners.

Content partner's role
Do content partners have to write the fact sheets? No, we have experienced health writers who prepare all first drafts. We just ask you to check the facts and make sure they reflect the latest available information.

What does a content partner do?
Check and comment on (if necessary) the first draft of fact sheets and then sign off the final copy after the internal BHC approval process is completed. Fact sheets are emailed to you for electronic editing.

Can we send the fact sheet to more than one person in our organisation for comment?
Yes, you can send it to as many people as you like. All we ask is that you put everyone’s comments on the same document before you send it back to us.

What if we want to make more changes at the final sign-off stage?
That’s fine. Our aim is to provide the public with the best information we possibly can and that includes your last minute additions.

Do you review your information regularly?
Yes, published fact sheets are sent back to you every year for review.

Can we update information more often than every 12 months?
Absolutely. Just send us an email and we’ll send you the information you wish to update. You can also choose a more frequent regular review timeframe.

How long are your fact sheets?
They vary between 500 words and 1,500 words with most being around 1,000 words.

What happens if we can’t meet your deadlines?
We’d appreciate a quick email – we understand that our content experts are busy people and we can be flexible with our timelines.
Better Health Channel's role
What does BHC do as part of this partnership?
We provide the content development expertise and manage the quality assurance process. All content is researched, written, edited and proofread by experienced and highly skilled health and medical writers and editors.

Our writers prepare drafts of all fact sheets. Our editors ensure the information complies with Better Health Channel policy, follows a consistent format, is written in plain English and reflects best practice for online use. At the annual review stage, our editors update information before it’s sent to you, to save you precious time.
Do your writers and editors have a medical background?
No, most of our editorial staff have a background in writing and editing but they all have many years experience working with health information. Our expertise is in communicating the message, ensuring that complex medical information is explained in simple language and can be easily found on the web by search engines.
What are the BHC approval processes?
As well as the content partner review, staff from the Department of Human Services may also review fact sheets. All fact sheets are reviewed by our Editor in Chief, Victoria’s former Chief Health Officer, Dr Graham Rouch.

Benefits for content partners
What’s in it for the content partner?
Better Health Channel has become the first port of call for people seeking quality health information. We are regularly ranked as the No 1 health and medical website in Australia, by independent ratings organisations. About 1.7 million Better Health Channel pages are viewed each month. Our content partners benefit from this popularity. The advantages include:
    • Increased profile – each fact sheet has at least two links to your site.
    • Help to get your message across – our aim is to help people make informed decisions about their health – an objective your organisation shares. Better Health Channel fact sheets are used in doctors’ surgeries, hospitals, homes, schools and anywhere that quality, consumer-friendly health information is needed.
    • Recognition among your peers – your organisation will benefit from having a profile among our other respected content partners.

How is the content partner’s contribution acknowledged?
We will display your logo, with a link to your site, at the end of each fact sheet. There is also another link to your site as part of the ‘more information’ section. All content partners are also listed on our ‘links’ page.
How to become a content partner
How can we become a BHC content partner?
Please email our content coordinator. We’ll then discuss your expression of interest and get back to you within 10 working days, or even faster if we possibly can.

Does it cost anything to be a content partner?
No, there is no financial arrangement involved. It is a relationship based on mutual benefit and shared objectives. But you will be asked to sign our Content partner agreement.
