Summer can mean fun, family, friends and holidays. It can also mean stress, drought, bushfires and unrelenting heat. You need to know about bushfire safety, sun protection, heat stroke prevention, children and hot weather, water safety and how to prevent insect bites and stings.

Hot weather

Heat stress, heat stroke, dehydration and sunburn are common in hot weather but can be prevented.

Water

Swimming and water play are good ways to stay cool in summer, but safety is important, especially for children.

Skin cancer protection

Use sunscreen, shade and clothing to rotect yourself from the sun and to prevent the risk of skin cancer.

Bushfires

Bushfires are common in summer, find out what to do if you’re on holidays and how to plan beforehand if you live in a bushfire area.

Safety outdoors

Enjoy the outdoors but avoid bites and stings, especially from mosquitoes which can carry diseases.
