Barmah Forest virus

Ross River and Barmah Forest viruses are carried by mosquitoes and can cause disabling rheumatic symptoms. Barmah Forest virus is believed to be of shorter duration. Symptoms may include fever, tiredness, painful joints, joint swelling, muscle tenderness, skin rash, headache and tiredness. Some people, especially children, may become infected without showing any symptoms. Although the symptoms of Barmah Forest virus are similar to Ross River virus, the disease has not yet been as intensively studied.
